i don't think this is something they would do generally - however i think there's an issue with trademarks that has forced their hand

take 'spam' for example.

Spam is a trademark of a company
spam is the term for junk-email.

This seems to make sense, as the examples in the post that you linked are based on having an upper-case first letter as the only difference.
