Search Engine Journal has an interesting news piece about Google allowing all users to place a video sitemap on their website to define videos. What this means is that videos hosted on your website will now rank within universal search and show a thumbnail of a frame from within your video.
NICE! Read: Search Engine Journal |

I'm eager to see how Google will deal with multilingual content within videos, obviously for users there is very little demand for, say, Spanish videos in English search results.
They could take the hosting cctld, language of the content around it and potentially a language tag in mind, but those could all be false indications of the actual content within the video. It seems likely there would be a higher degree of manual intervention when it comes to video indexation and ranking then there is with 'normal' content. Not to speak about videos of a more questionable nature ![]() At the same time it is interesting to see how this will affect the general hosting industry. It becomes more interesting to host videos yourself, which will eventually lead to an increase in demand for hosting of a slightly higher quality, with sufficient upstream bandwidth and available hosting space. |

Sorry I glanced over this. The article states that this is for Google Video Search and doesn't mention universal search. However, I think the opportunity is there from Google to implement that data within Universal Search.

Google has offered in the past to be the backbone of TV companies for IPTV. I don't think much came of this.
Youtube will still have it's use for people wanting to host their videos, but the popularity of people searching for videos could shift if I have the choice of multiple content providers as to just Youtube. |
