Hi Rebecka - welcome. The key thing about link baiting is 'quality content'. The term 'link baiting' makes it seem like a clever strategy - whereas "develop attractive content people will want to link to" doesn't sound so clever .

However, where 'link baiting' is useful is it forces you to think that way around. By answering the question "What do people in my industry think is interesting and useful and link to it" - you end up with link bait.....

I think that the term link bait is usually used to describe some content which is specifically designed to receive links - whereas the bulk of your content may provide general information, a link bait page, such as something "viral", funny, controversial, may be slightly off topic, but something that people will link to.

I have attempted many things, and so far failed. For example, my site is on health and fitness, so I wrote an article on pole dancing for fitness (which is actually becoming popular in London at least) in the hope that people would link to the article because it is a pole dancing video, and not because it is a fitness video. So link bait can mean many things, but really it is literally bait to get a link.

Hi Rebecca and greetings to you all (Hi Andy),
finally a moment to post while battling with a major family issue for the past month.

I'd like to have my say on link bating - like Andy says it's just Techie slang that many try to hide behind in an attempt to make things sound more difficult than they really are.

You'll generate links by making available something useful to your readers as a first step to building your popularity - there's no way around this and it will be hard work.

Link Baiting is also a technique used by opinion leaders who state something that can be rather controversial and by airing their opinion will generate buzz and controversial talk which in turn generates back links
